I made several changes for this second attempt:
- I halved the volume. My experience with 2ml pessaries left me annoyed—I felt like I was leaking way more than I'd like, including active ingredient. It made a mess and was wasteful. So I found some 1ml moulds.
- I doubled the active ingredient. I wanted to see if I could get my full prescribed dose to dissolve in the smaller volume. Although I like taking 100 mg in the a.m. and 100 in the p.m., I found the effect distracting—progesterone has a vasodilatory effect and attracts bloodflow—and it is a little inconvenient, so I cut back to one a day.
- As a result, each 1ml bear is ~23% progesterone and ~77% base. Despite appearing to be a large relative volume of micronized powder, it appeared to dissolve well.
- I used Supposi-Plex V65 for the excipient. I wanted to see how differently it handled from the stuff that is more readily obtainable (this is generally sold to pharmacies). It's a waxy compound formulated for vaginal insertion. From the technical data sheet:
a manufactured mixture of triglycerides from vegetable origins, ethoxylated cetylstearyl alcohol, and cera alba (beeswax).
- They are little bears. Because I can.
Effective?
Yes (my subjective experience only). It took longer to feel active effects, which lasted longer, than attempt 1.
Properties
Fairly rigid at room temperature—less melty than the coco butter + coconut oil. These harden at room temperature, though I keep them in the fridge.
Adorable.
Issues
- Feels a little like inserting a lego
- These are small enough that it isn't really uncomfortable, exactly. But they take a little longer to soften than attempt 1, so there was a more noticable sensation of something being in there for a few minutes.
